Family & Internal Medicine
Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center’s primary care providers apply a team approach to medical care. We treat minor medical problems like colds and flu and manageable chronic conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. We also provide affordable immunizations and physicals.
Our family practitioners, internists, nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants see our patients regularly for wellness check-ups and this gives us the opportunity to get to know our patients. Because we provide this continuity of care, we are often the first to note changes in a patient’s health.
We offer our primary care services at our Nashville, Clarksville, and Smyrna Tennessee facilities.
Primary healthcare is essential in the early stages of life. Our pediatric team provides medical services to children from the time of delivery until they reach their eighteenth birthday. Our certified pediatrician, with the assistance of our well-qualified nursing staff, work together to provide children with a personal healthcare plan. Some of our pediatric services include well-baby checks, immunizations, school physicals, sick visits and other infant, child and adolescent primary care services.
We are dedicated to supporting the health of women and girls. Our team of obstetricians, gynecologists, nurse practitioners, and nutritionist provide women and girls nutrition counseling and screenings, such as Pap tests and mammograms, along with prenatal care and family planning. For our pregnant patients, we partner with Nashville General Hospital, St. Thomas at Rutherford County and Vanderbilt hospitals for safe delivery of new babies.
Our Nashville clinic houses a full-service pharmacy. Here, we are able to offer a wide variety of prescriptions at 45 to 50 percent less than traditional drug stores and accept most major prescription insurance plans.
Our pharmacists are part of a patient’s comprehensive health plan as well. We work with other Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center providers to help monitor patient medications and ensure that medications prescribed work well with other medications a patient may be taking.
Our laboratory services, offered through a partnership with LabCorp, are available at all our clinics and include diagnostic laboratory testing and screening. Offering lab services enables our patients to have the testing they need without having to travel to an offsite location and enables our healthcare providers to diagnose and treat patients quickly and accurately.
Medical Imaging Services
We provide general X-ray services and screening mammography at our Nashville clinic.
Our centers in Nashville and Clarksville offer a full range of dental care services, including dental exams and cleanings, teeth whitening, oral cancer screenings, dentures, partials, fillings, crowns, tooth extractions and root canals.
Given that periodontal disease is linked to other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and oral cancer, we believe that comprehensive healthcare includes dentistry as a regular, integral part of primary patient care. Offering coordinated medical and dental services helps us to fulfill our commitment to comprehensive patient care and to our patients achieving and maintaining their best possible health.
Behavioral health services at Matthew Walker are provided through a partnership with Ross Behavioral Group. We offer individual, couples and family therapy focused on areas such as depression, anxiety, relationships, anger management, grief and loss, communication/conflict, divorce recovery, sexual issues, co-dependency and stress management.
Dial Down Diabetes Program
Dial Down Diabetes is a community-based program offered for adults with diagnosed diabetes, undiagnosed diabetes or pre-diabetes. It is designed to enable patients to “dial down” the impact that diabetes has on their lives. The program targets both rural and urban areas across Middle Tennessee. Participants have an assigned case manager and health coach and receive added support through healthy living workshops and fitness classes.
Dial Down Diabetes serves nearly 300 diabetic patients annually. Call 615-340-1289 for more information.
As a very important complement to medical services at Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Centers, we provide nutritional counseling to help our patients prevent and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. To meet the nutrition counseling needs of patients who can’t come to our Nashville clinic, we offer telehealth options which enable our staff to counsel patients virtually.
S.A.L.T (Seasoned Adults Living Triumphantly)
The S.A.L.T program provides a recreational and educational outlet for adults 50 years and older. Monthly activities at our Nashville location include educational sessions on, medication management, home safety tips, home health care, Medicare, senior scam prevention, nutrition and exercise as well as social activities and games. Call 615-340-3860 for more information.
HIV Testing & Education
At our clinics in both Nashville and Clarksville, we offer HIV testing, education and support through the FOCUS Program. FOCUS is funded by the Ryan White program. Our program assists people living with HIV/AIDS to identify and address the barriers that limit their ability to connect to HIV medical care. We help to link patients with the services they need and to support coordination and follow up of the patient’s medical care so that they can successfully participate in and adhere to HIV medical care.

We believe that part of our role in serving patients is to go beyond the walls of our centers and into our communities. The primary objectives of our outreach services team are to:
- Educate community members about how and where to access care
- Let the community know about services available through Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center clinics
- Maintain dialogue with external agencies
- Develop and maintain community partnerships
We accomplish these objectives by coordinating health screenings and promoting our health and wellness educational programs. We offer these programs at community events, health fairs, childcare and senior centers, community and faith-based organizations, government organizations, business associations, schools and other venues.
If you would like for us to participate in an event or provide medical or dental screenings for your organization, please call 615.324.9678.
